The moment One Direction fans have been waiting for has finally arrived. Singing heartthrob Harry Styles releases his debut solo single, “Sing of the Times.” Premiered in the early hours of Friday morning (Apr. 7), the mellow track is probably not the type of record some were expecting.
Shying away from the predictable uptempo pop record, Styles delivers a powerful rock ballad that many are comparing to composition inspired by the late iconic David Bowie. “Just stop your crying, it’s a sign of the times. Welcome to the final show, hope you’re wearing your best clothes,” sings the 23-year-old British singer. Co-written by Styles and Grammy Award-winning songwriter/producer Jeff Bhasker, the track is lead by Harry’s falsetto over the back drop of piano keys.
A video for “Sign of the Times” was recently shot and the British native is set to make his late-night television debut as a solo artist on Saturday Night Live on April 15, where he will perform the single live for the first-time.
