German automobile manufacturer, Audi has announced it will introduce a full-electric four-door GT model in 2020. As Audi outlined its electrified future in a press conference, the car maker mentioned its electric lineup will include special “Audi Sport” performance models. One of the 20 electrified models introduced by 2025 will be an E-Tron GT version that will be produced alongside the E-Tron crossover we’ve seen up to now.
Audi’s Rupert Stadler underlined the importance of Audi’s performance models even in an electric portfolio. “We interpret sportiness very progressively with our fully electric E-Tron GT, and this is how we will take our high-performance brand Audi Sport into the future,” said Stadler.
The E-Tron crossover will be launched later this year, presumably as a 2019 model. Audi confirmed its starting price as around 80,000 euros, or a little under $100,000; however, this is likely to be the European price. The crossover will be built in Brussels, reportedly completely carbon neutrally, and it will be capable of fast-charging at up to 150kW, meaning it’s ready for long-distance driving after 30 minutes of charging.
Electrified models are to account for one third of all Audi sales in 2025. Stadler said that shared electric car development with Porsche has resulted in reduced costs of “three-digit million Euro”; the E-Tron GT is likely to share know-how with the Mission E.
